An announcement and a bonus podcast
At The Well This Week
I have some news to share — this is my last week as Editor of The Well. Next week I start in a new position in the Graduate College of the University of Illinois. I have loved my time here and am so grateful to have journeyed alongside you all these past years.
Click here for more, including a lovely blessing I found that I’d love to share with you.
And, rest assured, The Weekly Well will continue to show up in your inbox on Fridays with the latest from The Well, invitations to connect, and things we loved.
The fall WSAP Book Club read Restless Devices by Felicia Wu Song, and wrapped up by talking with her. You can listen in to that conversation in this bonus podcast episode. And, scroll down for information on our next book club selection!
“All of the little habits — these urges to check our phones, to check our platforms — those are shaping us.”
You’re Invited!
Spring 2023 book club. What is my vocation in all the complexity that my life is right now? Do you look back with nostalgia at a different time in your life where discovering God’s purposes for you seemed less complex than it is today? Are you at a crossroads now, trying to discern what God is saying to you in the present? Maybe you are concerned about missing out on God’s will for the future? Or you might be too busy making sure that none of your spinning plates fall and crash to consider how God is in the mix.
If these pictures describe you — or you just want the scintillating company of fellow women academics — join us Wednesday nights at 9:00 p.m. Eastern beginning February 1, 2023 as we discuss Your Calling Here and Now by Gordon Smith.

Christian + Academic + Mother. It's not easy, right? Living in this space is hard enough, but the last couple of years have brought a new level of challenge to those of us who juggle motherhood and academia while seeking to live out these callings (and others) as followers of Jesus. Amid the challenges there are also moments of reward and joy.
Join us for a continuation of the conversations we began as we read and discussed Power Women: Stories of Motherhood, Faith, and the Academy. Find encouragement, challenge, and camaraderie as you connect with others in similar situations.
We'll tackle the topic of "Loving Well" at our next online meeting on Monday, February 6 at 8pm Eastern. Find more information and register here.

Two More Things We Loved This Week
Here are a few favorites from “New science jargon for a new year”:
Coffree: A caffeinated beverage that is available to you for free and therefore does not count toward the number of cups you drank that day
Dessertation: The practice of putting out a platter of treats to celebrate a graduate student’s thesis defense and possibly to distract from the thesis’ quality
Quomment: Really more of a comment than a question
Would you let a hibernating bear stay under your deck?
