Embracing our diversity
How can we faithfully navigate the complexities of race in our everyday relationships? Professors Krystal Hays and Veola Vazquez join us on the podcast to talk about their book Healing Conversations on Race: Four Key Practices From Scripture and Psychology. Their model for building and deepening cross-race relationships is grounded Scripture, informed by psychology, and supremely practical. And don’t we all need some extra help sorting through these tricky issues? Krystal and Veola share their expertise with all the grace and kindness one would wish for.
“The best way for us to work out our thoughts and feelings and experiences about race is in relationship with another human being.”
Krystal and Veola’s work points us back to the truth that our faith and our understanding of God is enriched by the diversity of our communities. Learning deeply about one another enlarges our capacity for compassion and empathy. Perhaps God might be inviting you to grow your understanding through reading? We’re reminded of this piece by Laura Veltman about the gifts of reading the diverse American experience (complete with a book list). As Laura says, “Let us listen to other voices and be amazed at the richness therein, again and again and again.”
“My intellectual and spiritual life has been so enriched by learning to seek out and listen to voices I didn’t even know I was missing.”
