How are your habits?
Can you believe it’s already the middle of March? We’re over halfway through Lent and about 75 days past those idealistic New Year’s resolutions. How are your habits these days? Almost all of us need to adjust our patterns from time to time, adding something nurturing or releasing ourselves from something that hinders — like that pesky habit or doing several things at once. Karen Hice Guzmán tells her story of abstaining from multitasking.
“This Lenten practice has forced me to embrace my humanity, including not being able to do everything I can or want to do. Instead, I am invited to grow in discernment — learning what is mine to do and letting go of that which is not.”
In the spirit of self-kindness, it’s important to remember that adjusting our habits can be more about gentleness and less about punishment or restriction. We’re thinking of our conversation with therapist Janice McWilliams and her practical and sensitive recommendations for approaching emotions, relationships, and routines.
“The best place for anything in our inner world to be experienced is with Jesus.”
