It takes all kinds
In our fast-paced world, what does it look like to inhabit our deep longing for quiet, for peace, for a moment of solitude? For introverts, this question can feel even more urgent as they seek to balance quiet, restorative time with experiences of connection. Rebecca Carhart writes of her own exploration of the inner landscape of opportunities that both nourish and challenge, reminding us that our need for restoration is just as good as our need for connection.
“I will always treasure the image of spacious solitude, and I will seek it out often. But I can’t stay there. I can’t hide in the bathroom too long. After all, the refuge I have with my Creator God comes along wherever I go and whatever I face.”
We are, each of us, fearfully and wonderfully made. Part of our task in life involves cultivating the communities we need in order to function well. We’re reminded of articles we’ve featured on diverse friendships and on thoughtful mentoring relationships, both of which show the ways God can grow us as we experiences the differences of creation through these other humans. Who knows? Perhaps it’s time to call that person up and invite them out for coffee.
“These dear individuals comprise an important part of my mentoring crew, and I have expanded my view of leadership and personal agency because of them. I am grateful beyond measure for these and my other mentors, as they have played a critical role in my professional journey, whether they knew it or not.”
