Let's talk about stories
Who doesn’t love a good story? English professor Jennifer Holberg joined us on the podcast to talk about the ways literature, Scripture, film, art, and life experience all weave themselves together in shaping our souls and our culture. Jennifer explores these ideas in her book Nourishing Narratives: The Power of Story to Shape our Faith, a book which draws the reader into the process of carefully examining and reflecting on the stories in our lives.
“Be yourself! Be your own crazy self. Authenticity is more important than being a 'should.'”
Making those connections between narrative, faith, and life can be a tricky tasks — but one that is exponentially more fruitful in community. We’re reminded of Bethany Bowen-Wefuan’s advice on forming a graduate student reading group, complete with practical tips on next steps for those who are interested. Because, seriously … who doesn’t love a good story?
“This reading group certainly provided the space to process and learn about the connection between faith and the work of literary scholarship, but there was a benefit that I had not anticipated: joy. By bringing the light of Scripture and the warmth of Christian fellowship to bear on my work, I have become more joyful in my work and thankful for God’s gift of literature.”
