The power of self-knowledge
Using our understanding of ourselves for the good of the world.
What wisdom can we glean from the Enneagram to help us thrive in our work environments? Author and management consultant Joey Stabile Schewee joins us on the podcast to discuss her recent book When Working Together Doesn’t Work: An Enneagram Guide to Productive Relationships with Coworkers. In our conversation, Joey gives us a brief overview of the Enneagram as a tool for self-understanding, guiding us to see the way this ancient personality rubric can help us to thrive in our workplaces. Joey’s expertise comes through in her ability to keenly perceive challenges between different types and offering helpful suggestions for working well together. And if you listen to the end of the credits, you’ll hear an excerpt from our conversation where Joey talks about her experience in using enneagram wisdom as a parent.
“You need to know yourself. You need to know your personal challenges. You need to know your hardwiring before you engage in anything.”
The journey toward self-discovery is intimately linked with our relationship with God. As spiritual director and author David Benner writes, “Genuine self-knowledge begins by looking at God and noticing how God is looking at us.” We’re reminded of Jenny McGill’s writing on identity, boundaries, and faith formation. Whether it is through the Enneagram, through personal reflection, or in community, knowledge of ourselves leads us more deeply into a relationship with God. How might God be inviting you to know yourself better in this season?
“How does one preserve one’s individuality without trampling on another’s space to co-exist differently? How does one’s self-differentiation not descend into exclusion?”
A note. If you head to The Well, you might notice a few little things that are different about our website — including a new landing page for Women Scholars & Professionals!
While we’re in the middle of some behind-the-scenes construction, some website features might be on the blink — so let us know if you have trouble finding anything. In the meantime, any new content will be posted here on our Substack page. Thanks for your patience with us!
